How to Generate a Random Date

To generate random dates, select your starting and ending date boundaries, specify the quantity, and choose whether to exclude weekends or duplicate days. Click Generate Random Dates to get instant results in your chosen date format.

You can toggle on random timestamps to append realistic hours, minutes, and seconds, which is particularly useful when populating database datetime or timestamp columns.

Generate Random Dates Between Two Dates

The tool calculates the total number of calendar days between your specified startDate and endDate. Each day within that span represents an index in an eligible candidate array.

For example, if you pick January 1, 2026 to January 31, 2026, there are exactly 31 eligible calendar days. If you select 5 unique dates, the generator ensures that each picked day is distinct and cannot be drawn twice in the same batch.

Generate Random Weekdays or Business Days

Many scheduling, financial, and workplace scenarios require dates that fall strictly on standard business days (Monday through Friday).

Use the Weekdays Only shortcut to quickly deselect Saturday and Sunday. The generator filters the available date pool before drawing, guaranteeing that no weekend days will ever appear in the output. You can also customize individual days (such as selecting only Tuesdays and Thursdays for recurring meeting simulations).

How Random Date Selection Works

TinyTools avoids the modulo-bias defects common in basic Math.random() implementations by relying on the browser's native Web Crypto API (window.crypto.getRandomValues).

First, every eligible day matching your date boundaries and weekday filter is compiled into an integer timestamp index. A cryptographically random 32-bit unsigned integer is then sampled to pick days with uniform probability across the entire calendar span.

Common Uses

  • Testing Date Pickers: Verify edge cases like leap years, month rollovers, and timezone offsets in your UI forms.
  • Sample Datasets: Populate mock orders, transaction logs, and customer signup dates in test databases.
  • Classroom & Games: Pick historical dates for trivia, history classroom quizzes, or timeline challenges.
  • Scheduling Simulations: Simulate stochastic task arrival times or sprint ticket creation dates.

Can I exclude weekends?

Yes. Click the "Weekdays Only" shortcut or uncheck Saturday and Sunday in the day-of-week checkboxes to produce business days only.

Can I create unique dates only?

Can I include a random time?

Yes. Enable "Include random time" to add hours, minutes, and seconds to each result.

Can I export random dates to CSV or JSON?

Yes. Use the download buttons above the output panel to save your results as a CSV spreadsheet, JSON array, or plain text file.
